Hebrews 11 talks about how Abraham obeyed and was called out to go to a place of inheritence. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise "for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God." (Hebrews 11:10)
Pastor Bill explores this "City of God" in a message he shared on Sunday, March 18, 2012.
John the Baptist prepared the way for the Christ with a message and baptism of repentence. Pastor Bill relates the importance of repentence to prepare the way for Jesus in the lives of individuals today.
A message highlighting the lives and choices of three men found in scripture for whom power, position and prosperity were not enough.
On Sunday, October 2nd, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. supporters of the unborn will line the lake side of Highway 42 at the intersection of 42 and 54 in Algoma.
This is a local event for all who have the courage and compassion to take a stand in support of the innocent and most vulnerable of our nation.
There are no speeches or sermons or doctrine or leaders. There is no preparation necessary, other than to spread the word and show up. There is no "agenda," other than to join as humble supporters of life. Please understand, Life Chain is not a calloused, in-your-face, public demonstration. (See the Code of Conduct, below.) Instead, our first mission is to allow God to minister to us, the Church. It is also a solemn witness to the general public as we stand humbly, yet boldly, on behalf of our nation's voiceless and most innocent citizens.
Again, Life Chain is a silent witness and is most effective when participants remain prayerful and free of idle chatter and interaction with motorists. And though we stand silently, making no effort to elicit any response, passing motorists are overwhelmingly supportive. This event is unbelievably powerful (as much for the participants as anyone) and yet it's so easy. Just one hour on a Sunday afternoon. Participants will be provided simple signs. The back of each sign lists songs, scripture and prayer points and the Life Chain "Code of Conduct" to assistparticipants in making it a powerful hour of intercession, spiritual growthand reflection.
This will be the fourth year a Life Chain assembly is held in Algoma. I hope you'll join us in marking your calendar for Sunday, October 2nd and begin sharing details of the Life Chain event with your family and friends. If you have questions, call (920) 487-5775. Information about the national organizers can be found at www.NationalLifeChain.org
Life Chain Code of Conduct
1 - Be humble but be bold as you stand against the greatest injustice our nation has ever faced.
2 - In the spirit of Christian love, commit to being peaceful, prayerful, and polite, in word and deed. Any misconduct from passersby should be met with silence, which will convey your inner peace.
3 - Do not respond to motorists. Please stay silent and prayerful and your response to any situation will be proper. Do not wave or gesture. Do not frown or smile in response to motorists. Our mission is to pray and stand against abortion-with the solemnity our mission deserves.
4 - Help others. Watch your small children at all times. Watch for mothers (and dads) who need help with children, and assist the elderly with chairs and other needs.
5 - Pick up any trash near you before leaving your area. (Even if you didn't create it.)
6 - Drive carefully, and park legally. Do not park in spaces intended for customers of near-by businesses. Buddy-up, if possible, to minimize traffic woes. Use crosswalks, and do not hold up traffic.
7 - During the Chain, stand back from the street and do not extend your sign over the curb. Give immediate passage to other pedestrians. Only small children should eat during the LIFE CHAIN.
[The Code of Conduct is printed on the back of each LIFE CHAIN sign, along with an introductory statement on Why We Are Here (at the Life Chain).]
The term “Trinity” is an essential part of orthodox Christianity. It is the term the Church uses to express the unity of three Persons in the one God. In a nutshell, the Christian doctrine of the Trinity is this: (1) There is only one God; one divine nature and being. (2) This one divine Being is tri-personal, involving three distinct persons in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit; all joint partakers of the same nature and majesty of God.
In talking with Christians, I find that nearly all are familiar with the Trinity. Most Christians know God the Father as the creator of all things. They know Jesus, as God’s Son who was crucified, and rose again. Many, however, know little about the person of the Holy Spirit. A somewhat understandable position since most preaching and teaching center on God, the Father, and Jesus, the Son.
A majority of Christians would be unable to give you a clear answer to the question “what is the function of the Holy Spirit?” The good news is that God's Word, the Holy Bible, has all the answers. Through reading and studying God's Word, we can (and should) be as familiar with the Holy Spirit as we are with the Father and Son. We must not be ignorant about any person of the trinity.
One of the major functions of the Holy Spirit is to tell us about Jesus. Jesus told His disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit and that the Holy Spirit would testify about Him. (John 15:26) Jesus also said “He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:14) When Jesus walked on the earth as a man, He glorified the Father. In the same way, the Holy Spirit now glorifies Jesus. Just as Jesus testified about the Father, the Holy Spirit testifies about Jesus.
In John 16:7 Jesus makes and amazing statement. He said “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” As much as we think it would be good for Jesus to have stayed, He said it was good that He was going. Why? So He could send the Holy Spirit. This "third person" must be pretty important.
In the next sentence (John 16:8) Jesus reveals another crucial function of the Holy Spirit. “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment...” The Holy Spirit brings an awareness of our sin to us. Without an understanding our own sinful condition, we would never turn to a Savior.
Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would also be our teacher. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (John 14:26) According to John 16:13 the Holy Spirit reveals all truth: “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth...and He will tell you things to come.” Not only does the Holy Spirit remind us of what Jesus said (the past) and teaches us “all truth” that we need to know now (the present), He will tell us of things that are yet to come (the future).
The Holy Spirit also empowers us for the work God has called us, His Church, to do; to go into all the world and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In the first chapter of Acts Jesus told His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit before beginning the task (Acts 1:4-5 & 8)
In the second chapter of Acts the power of Holy Spirit came. From then on the disciples walked “in the power of the Spirit” and turned the world upside-down. The world still needs to be turned upside-down for the cause of Christ. The Holy Spirit is still supplying the power to get the job done. To put more of this “power” to work in your life, make a commitment to learn more about the mysterious third person of the trinity.
This event is Free and open to all. Bring a blanket or lawnchairs and sing loud in the great outdoors.
